Fran was recommended to us as a photographer only a few short weeks before our marriage ceremony. My mother had been ill with cancer and we were advised that we should get married ahead of schedule to ensure she could be there and enjoy the day with us. I contacted Fran by email and explained the circumstances, unsure of whether she could fit us into her an undoubtedly busy wedding season schedule. My email was met with the utmost professionalism and empathy, and Fran found a way to make our date work with her schedule so she could photograph our civil ceremony. Fran took the time to make all of us feel comfortable and relaxed on a day filled with mixed emotion. She respected my mother’s wishes for privacy and never acknowledged her illness or made it awkward taking the mother-daughter shots that were carefully chosen and staged to make sure the important moments were captured. She made what could have been a stressful and emotionally-heavy day feel calm, enjoyable and fun. She also never once made us feel that our small, causal ceremony was any less special or important than an elaborate wedding. Seeing the photos from this day warms my heart for so many reasons. I met a genuinely compassionate friend out of the experience who was able to beautifully document one of the most important events of my life while capturing priceless memories of my mother in the final months of her life.
