Arundhati and Joe are from Colorado and decided to have a destination wedding here in Vancouver as their location. Joe is an avid climber and what better place to come than the Squamish / Vancouver area. When I first started talking to Arun on the telephone it felt like we were longtime friends. She is super upbeat and incredibly warm and welcoming (as is Joe) … seriously one of the sweetest couples I have had the pleasure of meeting. Both families treated me more like a guest / family member than just the hired photographer. I loved loved loved this family and am so glad I was invited to all their events and witness these beautiful traditions. Besides eating delicious food for 3 days straight … I got to see a Gaye Holud (turmeric ceremony) for the first time as well as a Bridal Mehndi Party. Munira did such an amazing job on everyone’s henna!
The next night was the Sangeet at the Squamish Adventure Center and then the day of the wedding was held at the ever beautiful Cecil Green. More photos to come later … in the meantime … please enjoy this colorful display of a Gaye Holud and the Mehndi. Thank you again for such a fun filled day with tons of laughter! I wanted to keep Arun’s mother with me forever … I have never seen such a happy woman! Ever time you looked at her she had the biggest smile on her face. BIG BIG hugs to you all!!!!
Also HUGE props to Jennifer Ballard for being a great second shooter … but more importantly thank you for being an amazing friend!! x0
only married women are allowed to participate in this tradition …
After a delicious lunch and a good clean up … a few hours later we had the Mehndi
Arun’s mother … love her!!
these two women cracked me up all day … their story telling was so captivating and their laughter infectious!
I love the design and the henna of the bride and groom … amazing.
